Work-life balance?
Google co-founder Sergey Brin said “I don’t know her.”
The New York Times got eyes on an internal memo from Sergey to Google employees working on Gemini (you know, an AI tool that might replace them someday) encouraging the team to “turbocharge” their efforts.
He advised employees that they should be in the office at least every weekday (ok, fair) and that 60 hours a week is the “sweet spot” of productivity (excuse me?).
I think Bridget speaks for everyone here:
In the same memo, he called out folks for working less than 60 hours a week and others for putting in “the bare minimum to get by.”
The bare minimum-ers, he pointed out, aren’t just unproductive, but also bad for team morale :(
But Sergey did generously concede that working more than 60 hours a week could lead to burnout. What a mensch 🙏
AND DON’T WORRY!!
Sergey himself was able to take some time away from his busy office schedule to attend the Vanity Fair Oscars after party. Phew!
Dishonorable mentions:
Matt Sauerhoff, founder of fitness center The LIV Method, was caught in HD yelling and swearing at popular celebrity chef Eddie Huang after being confronted about letting his dog go off-leash in public.
Kroger’s long-time CEO, Rodney McMullen, resigned suddenly on Monday after the board learned about “certain personal conduct” that was “inconsistent with Kroger’s Policy on Business Ethics.” No news on what that personal conduct was yet… 👀
In a classic Billy McFarland move, the Fyre Festival founder announced a Fyre Festival 2 (2 Fast, 2 Festival) that would take place on Isla Mujeres…but local authorities say they have “no knowledge of this event.” We will not be hoodwinked, bamboozled, led astray again, Billy!
